Tamale IT Engineers work independently, multi-tasking among the many IT functions that are essential to our tactical and strategic success. The IT Engineer’s responsibilities span nearly every conceivable axis: small to large, simple to complex, Windows to Linux, local to remote, laptop to server. A few examples:
|

|
|
 |
|
Evaluate capacity and reliability of all network links, upgrade as necessary, and deploy monitoring to proactively address capacity issues and circuit failures. |
|
|
|
|
Implement two-way synchronization of file library used and maintained by developers in multiple locations. |
|
|
|
|
Port NIST Net to current Linux kernel, package in RPM for internal use, and distribute patches and RPM for external use. |
|
|
|
|
Design and implement Enterprise-grade data center for 24/7 delivery of centralized services, including server virtualization, high availability and DR. |
|
|
|
|
Evaluate free and commercial version control systems against Tamale requirements, migrate existing repository to new solution. |
|
|
|
|
Figure out why the COO’s laptop speakers mysteriously stop working when he’s in the office. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Whenever possible, Tamale utilizes mature open-source components. This helps us to remain nimble in our selection of system components and allows us to focus our development efforts on our clients’ most pressing needs. This blending of open and proprietary software enables us to develop a highly extensible research management platform.

Networking protocols and services, including SMTP (sendmail, postfix, anti-spam solutions), DNS, DHCP, NTP, Exchange, Active Directory

Scripting languages (Perl, Python, PHP) |

Vendor management, including researching and recommending vendor products |

|
Development experience a plus Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, .NET, C#, Java, JBoss, Ant |

Experience with office expansion responsibilities a plus server room build-out, office cabling, etc. |

|
